As our surroundings seem to close in on us, the strength to pull through comes boiling up from somewhere. It is based in the gained knowledge from our experiences, and it changes our world for the better. Sparrow is the collection that guides readers down that dark road with a light waiting around the corner. It is an adventurous statement in poetic style-and in life resolution-that anchors us in humanity and encourages our relationships with wildflowers and daydreams.

"Sparrow" by Kelsi Rose is a collection of poems that frequently enchanted me. The word that ultimately comes to mind when I read her poetry was WHIMSY. These poems were whimsical and colorful, hinting at J.M. Barrie and Lewis Carroll, but that certainly isn't to say that they are just happy forays into worlds of singing birds and falling stars, of blossoms and dandelions in your hair. These poems are oftentimes tragic and heartbreaking, dark. The whimsical way in which they're expressed grants their melancholy nature much more of a punch. Hidden within all the youthful feminine imagery are prose and lines about sex, abuse, drugs, depression, and domination. These are poems I can see blooming in colorful old composition notebooks and written in the margins of textbooks: little secrets that you're lucky enough to periodically find that could change who you are and how you think. How fortunate we all are, then, to have them all collected into one volume!
Well done, Miss Rose! Keep your poems coming please. We all need them in our jaded aging hearts.

Sparrow Kelsi Rose 9781941058404 Books Reviews
This is an enchanting collection of poetry that identifies, resonates, and empowers. I have read many of the pieces with my own daughters and used them as a catalyst to deepen the bond between mother and child as well as help them understand that some of their own feelings and experiences are also experienced by other females. Kelsi has managed to capture and express those emotions and life experiences with such grace and power. If you are looking for eloquent poetry, please go no further. This is it.
I'm not sure I can find the word to describe how much I adore the poems in Sparrow. As you begin to read, it's like an avalanche; the words build up and you're falling faster into the book. I couldn't stop reading the lyrical lines and the connection you feel is unlike anything I've read before.
This collection of poetry is, more than anything else, more heartfelt than anything I have read in the past number of years. You can feel every emotion through the writers words, the books bleeds with the heartbreak, turmoil and triumph and I hope we get to see more from this young writer. The world needs more of this and more of her.
We often seek the spilling of words, but Kelsi Rose finds a way which adds craft and care. Sometimes a poem will teeter on sophomoric, but then the gravity of life takes hold, and Rose is along for the ride. This collection is a beautiful blend of childhood broaching on the realizations of adulthood, the clean and pure with the tinge of understanding that makes most people doubt and regret. Like the bittersweet flight of sparrows in unsure skies, Rose is able to bridge the gap between the honeysuckle sweet of innocence and love, but sips the quiet pensive of the past in equal doses. Reading this collection makes love lost and love gained feel like equal parts in a way I familiarize with all too well. I'm excited to see her future writing.
Posting this from .co.uk from one of my United Kingdom readers because UK reviews do not show up on the American site.

A Stunning Debut

Format Edition
This stunning debut from the talented pen and mind of Kelsi Rose is a brilliantly yearning, pining, confessional collection of poetry and poetic prose pieces. The reader is taken on a journey into the soul of a girl getting to grips with growing up and dealing with heartache and revealing stories of a bruised heart seeking the redemptive power of love and acceptance. That this powerful and strong collection came from someone hardly in her 20s speaks volumes about Kelsi. How long before Kelsi's next powerful work? As yet we don't know but the wait will be so worthwhile. A truly superb writer with the potential to go onto big things, Kelsi Rose is a name to watch out for.
Kelsi's poetry is beautifully written; it is poignant, haunting and whimsical. I look forward to her next work. I highly recommend this book.
