First of all, I'm a guy. A man's man. A man among men. I occasionally lose my footing when I slip on the excess testosterone that drips out of my steel-toed work boots. So in a twist of the old Irish Spring commercial where the hot babe in the shower says "Manly yes, but I like it too," I have to admit that this book is "girly yes, but I like it, too."
I'm new to the writing business, and have published 2 1/2 funny books. When a new author friend mentioned this book on her Facebook page, I was intrigued enough to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did!
I hope that by now it's firmly established that my manly manhood is above reproach. But that said, I fell head over heels (work boot heels) for this love story. I re-lived parts of the old awkward teenage me in George, and I saw many of the people I knew in other well developed characters.
This is a delightful read -- umm, I mean, it's a great book for chicks. If you are a guy and are secure in your sexuality (as I obviously am), then you, too, will LOVE this book.

This was a fantastic read. I read and walked, washed dishes, at stop lights.... you get the picture. Both characters were interesting and their progression to each other was great. This book didn't inspire me to think deeply about my life. Instead, I laughed and yearned for the main characters to get together. It's a romantic comedy and honestly, has movie potential.
I just finished the most wonderful little book - Playing Along - written by Rory Samantha Green. Does that name sound English to you? I think she must be, her vernacular was too "over the pond" to be faked. Anyway, Ms. Green has written the novel that all of us wish we could live. I stayed up all night and finished it the next morning ) Hope you try it!
I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I had to wait a while to start my new book because I needed time to savor the story. Even as I begin another book, this story keeps popping into my mind, enjoyably. Keep writing, Rory! You are a brilliant writer and I will read all of your books!
This book was great! I haven't read a book in awhile that I had to finish immediately, but this one I did. Usually switching POVs really bothers me, but this was done really well. I think everyone has felt the connection to the rock star that is described in this book - the wanting. The author captured it nicely. Great book! Putting it in my "keepers" folder on my to read again )
I found this to be a delightful book to read. I loved the changing POV between Lexi and George- even backing up sometimes so you got both characters thoughts on the same experience. The supporting characters were great and there were several times when I laughed out loud at the dialogue. It's a hopefully romantic read about the unintentional paths lives can take and how you can end up with a happily ever after that doesn't look like the one your mind envisioned as a teenager. I thoroughly enjoyed the time i spent reading this book.
This book was a freebie and a very nice surprise. It's a sweet love story with a touch of suspense about the ending. I was getting a little frustrated about getting to a happy ending (I do NOT read for unhappy endings, no matter the genre), but thankfully it arrived just in time. All in all, a good suspenseful build-up to the happy ending I was hoping for. Good character development and very likeable characters as well. I liked that the main characters had to do some growing up along the way. This was the kind of love story we wish happened in real life but know is unlikely. This book is one of the reasons I try the freebies - you discover writers you never knew about and find little gems like this book.
"Playing Along" is simply delightful. The novel marvelously intertwines all the tugs of the heart, imaginative visions of the future, and true-to-life self-destructive thoughts that keep our belief in dreams coming true, frustratingly at bay.
Exactly as others have written below, "Playing Along" makes one believe in love at first sight again - at trusting your instincts even though they may seem crazy. In this pragmatic, overly recorded and captured world we live in, there is no way to truly capture that moment when two people connect and Rory Samantha Green does it with grace, humor, realness, respect and love.
I believe anyone who reads the charming story will see themselves in it. We know these characters - Lexi, George, Russell, Meg, Fanny, Lance, the band mates, the parents, even Boris the cat! We feel the Santa Ana winds blow and the chilly London nights. We read along as the stars above make magic, rocking the worlds of Lexi and George, crossing their lives and they are pushed, pulled, reconnected and driven apart again by a little intervention and a lot of divine fate. Just as it was finished, I turned the page for more. I went to wash dishes and returned to the book hoping the story would go on. Perhaps there will be a sequel. If not, I get to dream about what happens next, just as Lexie and George do - as we all do, when we dream about love.
